Announcing the JCHS 2017 Summer Fellows

The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, which advances understanding of housing issues and informs policy through its research, education, and public outreach programs, is pleased to announce its 2017 Summer Fellows:

Edward M. Gramlich Fellows in Community and Economic Development

  • Caroline Lauer (Harvard Graduate School of Design, Master in Urban Planning) will be working this summer with NeighborWorks® America to research resiliency and disaster recovery, particularly in rural areas.
  • Matthew Schreiber (Harvard Graduate School of Design, Master in Urban Planning) will be working with NeighborWorks® America to research strategies for preserving affordable housing.
     

Harvard Kennedy School Fellows in Housing & Community Development

  • Daniel Black (Master in Public Policy) will be working on the EveryHome Initiative, a community revitalization effort in Providence, Rhode Island, aimed at bringing blighted and abandoned properties back into use.
  • Peter Drivas (Master in Public Policy) will be working in the office of New York City's Deputy Mayor for Housing and Community Development on issues related to planning and implementing the city’s housing plan.
  • Kyle Ofori (Master in Public Policy/Master in Urban Planning) will be working with the Fitz Forward Revitalization team in Detroit as a liaison between the Fitzgerald community and a real estate development team leading a neighborhood revitalization project in the city.
     

Harvard Graduate School of Design Summer Community Service Fellows

  • Matt Genova (Master in Urban Planning) will assist with several projects around the implementation of nMotion, Nashville's, 25-year transportation plan.
  • Miriam Keller (Master in Urban Planning) will assist the National Low Income Housing Coalition in Washington, DC on efforts to educate federal lawmakers about housing needs and efforts to analyze and shape policy proposals.
  • Casey Peterson (Master in Urban Planning) will be working at the New York City Department of City Planning to shape and support outreach to communities in advance of citywide zoning proposals.
  • Leah Pickett (Master in Urban Planning) will work at the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development on issues related to land disposition and the development process for affordable housing.
  • Claire Summers (Master in Urban Planning) will work in Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development on a variety projects, including research and identification of potential locations for non-profit development of affordable housing.
  • Katherine Wolf (Master in Urban Planning) will work with the Boston Planning & Development Agency on recent initiatives in the Glover’s Corner neighborhood of Dorchester.
  • Jessica Yuan (Master in Architecture I) will work with Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development on several projects including updating research on housing typologies for affordable housing developments.
