Local Governments and Rental Affordability

Location: Room 109, Gund Hall, Graduate School of Design

What can local governments do to address the nation’s ongoing rental affordability crisis? While solutions to the problem ultimately must involve all levels of government, local governments are closest to the problem and, arguably, have many powers to address it. In this session, local officials from Austin, TX, Louisville, KY, Rochester, NY, and Stockton, CA will discuss both the specific issues facing each of their communities, some of their ideas for addressing them, and the challenges that need to be overcome to make more progress.
