W06-6: In 1994, the U.S. White House convened various stakeholders to establish a set of “National Construction Goals” recognizing that the residential building industry is one of the largest and most important sectors of the U.S. economy. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the construction industry comprises the second largest contributor to national GDP (over 8%, behind only healthcare) with the residential market comprising more than half of the construction industry as a whole.
