Creating Deliberate Social Changes in Cities: Lessons from the Mega-Cities Project

A lunchtime talk by Janice Perlman, author of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio De Janeiro, and founder of the Mega-Cities Project, which was initiated in 1987 to combine theory and practice in the search for successful approaches to improving urban management and the conditions of daily life in the world's largest cities.

Prior to creating the Mega-Cities Project, Perlman was a tenured professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley. She has also taught at Columbia University, New York University, Hunter College and Trinity College as well as several universities abroad.
